As far back as I can remember, BBQ Pork Ribs were always one of my favourite foods. As a kid our family would order them often where they would come with a baked potato and corn cob, and of course, slathered in a heavy and very high sugar BBQ sauce.
In my teens I started making them myself and they would be one of my favourite treat meals. While I didn’t add sugar to my marinade, I ALWAYS added honey and used sugar sweetened condiments in my marinade sauce.
These Air Fryer BBQ Pork Ribs are sugar free, keto friendly and is one of the easiest recipes ever to make! With my old recipe I would always marinate the ribs overnight so they would be super tender, moist and juicy. But by using the air fryer, these ribs get tender without the need for pre-marinating, which cuts the prep and recipe time to basically nothing.
While this recipe for Air Fryer BBQ Pork Ribs is simple, out of all my recipes it’s one I have tested and retested the most. I wanted to try it with different types of BBQ sauce, to find which worked and tasted best. Getting the cooking time and temperature right was also crucial. Too long and the outside would be blackened and the inside dry, not long enough and the meat would be tough and under cooked.
After many trials and several meals of different test ribs, I finally decided on Primal Kitchen’s unsweetened BBQ sauce for this Air Fryer BBQ Pork Ribs recipe. While Undivided Food Co’s Good Sauce BBQ is my favourite, for this BBQ Ribs recipe, I really think the Primal Kitchen works better. Good Sauce BBQ is more on the sweet side, while Primal Kitchen has a BBQ sauce that is smoky and tasted a lot better on the ribs. And of course, Primal Kitchen is much more easily accessible as it is available both here in Australia and the US.
You can experiment with both options and for something local, Coles has a new sugar free BBQ sauce out which we also tested with. This sauce was definitely my least favourite of the three though, however if strapped for time or you’re just not one of those people that likes buying products online, this is an easy option to grab.
If you don’t have an air fryer than don’t worry, these BBQ Pork Ribs can be made just as easily in an oven in a baking tray than in the air fryer. However, I would recommend marinating the BBQ Pork Ribs in the sauce overnight to help make sure they are tender as the oven won’t do the same work as the air fryer of making them moist and juicy.

- ⅓ cup unsweetened BBQ sauce

- Cook for 15 minutes at 220°C/425°F. Open the air fryer and baste again. Turn so the fleshy side is facing up again and baste with remaining sauce. Cook another 15 minutes to finish.
