While I’ve definitely heard of and seen pictures of Salami Chips in my two years of eating this way, I never actually took the time to try them myself. I did try cheese chips in the beginning but unlike everyone else who seems to love them, I find them incredibly disappointing and didn’t like the flavour at all. I guess after that I was a bit put off trying keto chips and to be honest, they weren’t something I missed too much on this way of eating anyway.
But after discovering all the quick and easy awesome things you can make in an air fryer and putting ours to good use, on a whim I suddenly decided to make some Air Fryer Salami Chips in there and see how they were. This notion came from two things, firstly that I almost ALWAYS have salami on hand in the fridge and freezer which I pair with cheese and nuts for quick and easy meals. Secondly, that I had been eating lots of salami and bought a ton of it, then lost my appetite (as a lot of us do on keto) and had left it sitting in the fridge for ages.
The use by date was in one day and being the frugal person I am, I figured if I cooked the salami it might last a bit longer. I suddenly remembered about Salami Chips and that I also had lots of avocadoes that I could use to pair it with for dip, as well as some mustard dipping sauce in the fridge from a different recipe that needed to be used up. So I whacked some in the air fryer, did some test rounds and here we are, Air Fryer Salami Chips!
I don’t know how this compares with oven recipes for cooking times but it takes 5 minutes or less to make these. I highly recommend buying pre-sliced salami because the slices will be nice and thin with a uniform shape compared to slicing by hand at home. It also cuts out the prep meaning all you have to do is open a packet, lay your slices in the air fryer and pull out delicious Air Fryer Salami Chips!
Air Fryer Salami Chips
Equipment
- Air Fryer
Ingredients
- 200 g sliced salami I used Mild Hungarian
Instructions
- Lay your salami in a single layer on the rack of your air
fryer. Turn it up full (230C on mine) and cook for 3-5 minutes until coloured
and crisping. - Set aside and cool completely so the salami chips can crisp up
more. Repeat with any remaining salami. Pair with your favourite cheese or dip. - Cooking times will vary depending on the brand of air fryer
and how cold and thin the salami is. If you’re using it straight from the
fridge you may find the first batch might take a minute longer than the last
batch which will warm up while you’re cooking the first lot. Watch them
carefully to make sure you get the times right and they don’t burn! - I also found that if you eat the salami chips while they’re
even slightly warm, they can taste quite oily. Make sure to let them cool down
completely before eating to get the best taste. - For a great meal or snack try pairing your Air Fryer Salami Chips with this Avocado Dip!
