I love these Steak and Prosciutto Roll Ups! They remind me of a parmigiana and are made using my Homemade Passata. The addition of cream makes this a filling meal in itself without the need to add pasta subs like zoodles or konjac noodles, but you can of course add these if you like. They also look impressive but are very simple and easy to make!
These Steak and Prosciutto Roll Ups are also great for company and kids, my son loves the look of the rolls and loves helping to make them. Getting kids helping to prep food and touching food outside of meal times is a stepping stone to getting them to actually taste the food.
You can secure these with either toothpicks or string but I find toothpicks more convenient for this one and easier for kids, who will love spearing the Steak and Prosciutto Roll Ups with the toothpicks! These also use few ingredients and are made of just real food, no subs or sweeteners in this one. If you don’t want to use prosciutto, ham would be a good and cheaper alternative, just make sure it’s thinly sliced.
These are then seared in a hot pan and then made in the oven in the Homemade Passata sauce. The meat is tender and full of flavour!
Steak and Prosciutto Roll Ups
Ingredients
- 8 veal or beef schnitzel/minute steaks
- 8 slices prosciutto
- 4 tbsp freshly grated parmesan
- 1/2 quantity Homemade Passata
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 cup thickened cream/heavy whipping cream
- optional extra parmesan to top
Instructions
- Lay out a schnitzel, layer a slice of prosciutto on top and sprinkle with ½ tbsp parmesan.
- Roll up tightly and use a toothpick or string to hold it together. Repeat with remaining schnitzels.
- Heat olive oil in a frying pan and brown roll ups over high heat. Remove to a small roasting dish and top with homemade passata. Cook in the oven at 180C for 15 – 20 minutes.
- Remove from oven and set aside roll ups. Add cream to roasting dish and mix through until well combined with the Homemade Passata.
- Remove toothpicks or string, add back the roll ups and turn to coat in the sauce. Serve roll ups on their own with the sauce or over your favourite pasta replacement. Sprinkle and top with optional extra parmesan if using.
