Still have your sandwich press lying around? Wondering what you can do with it now that you’ve gone low carb? Well don’t get rid of it just yet, here’s one recipe you can still use it for! Fathead Ham and Cheese Toasties are like a classic ham and cheese toasted sandwich, except with Fathead as the bread! Add some tomato or vary up the fillings completely to replicate your old favourite toasted sandwiches. They’ll taste much better than the toasted sandwiches you remember eating!
Fathead Ham and Cheese Toasties
Ingredients
- 1 quantity Fathead with coconut
- 150 g sliced leg ham
- 4 slices tasty or cheddar cheese
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- salt to taste
Instructions
- Make Fathead according to recipe adding garlic powder and salt. Roll out thinly into a rectangle. Cut out equal sized squares about the size of a slice of bread. Gather up the excess dough, reheat in the microwave (about 20 seconds) and roll out and cut more squares.
- You should have enough for 8 squares or 4 toasties and even might have a bit of Fathead leftover. If you do you can cut and bake in the oven to make little cheese type crackers/chips.
- Heat sandwich press and place two squares of Fathead on it next to each other. I didn’t need to grease my press but if you’re worried it might stick then grease the press with a little butter.
- Leave the press open and let the 2 Fathead squares toast for a few minutes. You don’t need to properly cook them, just firm them up and brown very lightly. Once done, flip them so the lightly toasted side is facing up.
- Top one of the squares with ham and cheese. Top with the other square, browned side facing down. Close the press and toast until the Fathead is nicely browned, cheese is melted and ham is warmed through.
- Remove from press and repeat with remaining ingredients to make 4 toasties.
- Cut into halves diagonally and serve!
